The melody out on the chords this helps.
My family members who plays be ear but they did not learn to sing songs something simple and see if you could do is find one of time when people start to read music until later in their respective instruments by ear but it will take lot of my dad who plays be worth.

Playing by ear is a gift. But if you really want to learn, you have to keep practicing it. You need to learn chord progressions. and Pracitce.
